Back to School Haul 2014

Just a quick back to school haul for you guys, hope you enjoy!

England Athletics Championships

This past weekend I travelled all the way down to Bedford to work with the British athletics biomechanics team and complete some performance analysis for the athletics field events.
After a disasterous start to the trip by missing my connection train, I arrived at the hotel 3 hours late on the friday night! I had a small amount of time to look over my schedule for the weekend and familiarise myself with the equipment I would be using.
On the saturday I recorded the performances in the pole vault, shot put, hammer throw and triple jump. Then on the sunday I recorded long jump, pole vault and javelin.
I had a really great experience throughout the weekend and met some really great people. I just now feel sorry for the head biomechanist who has to go through and analyse all of the films!

Thought of the day

My ultimate goal is to be at peace with myself, eliminate toxic feelings and elements and energies from my life, unlearn negative and harmful practices and thought patterns, stop checking for people that don’t check for me, create a space for myself that is nurturing for growth so that i may generate loving energy for myself and for others, nourish my spirit and balance my energies, i have big dreams and i deserve to live a life i love and let that love.

The Kings' Experience

These past 4 weeks I have been working at a kids summer camp in my home town as a swim coach and lifeguard...
It has been a bit of a whirl wind to be honest as I applied for the job one day, was given an interview literally the next day and started camp the week after, therefore I had very little time to prepare myself for how manic the month ahead would be.
As the camps main swim coach, my job was to teach all of the children swimming but with a fun element, so I basically just played games and splashed around in the pool for the entire time I was at work!
Although stressful at times, I have had the best 4 weeks and have made some great friends and have really learnt a lot about swimming in general and about working with young children..

...next stop for me, applying to work at a summer camp in CANADA

March Favourites 2014

- Petite stripe pocket tee - £15 at Topshop
- The perks of being a wall flower by Stephen Chbosky
- The fault in our stars by John Green
- Paper towns by John Green

I had my second year final exams these past few weeks, so March has basically consisted of non-stop revision for me, so what better way to relax than reading a good book. I have really gotten into John Green recently, so much so that I bought his entire collection of books! They definitely do not disappoint, other than harry potter and the hunger games books I'm not usually a big reader, but I have read these books from start to finish in record time for me! definitely a sign of a good book.
Since purchasing this Topshop tee a few months back I have noticed so many people wearing it, and I'm hardly surprised tbh, the quality is amazing and it just looks so cute with jeans and a simple necklace.

Maybelline Haul January 2014

- Maybelline Big Eyes Double Ended Mascara
- Maybelline Baby Lips in Fresh Mint
- Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer

I was sick for most of January so I thought some new beauty products might cheer me up, and these 3 definitely did! I saw a commercial for the Maybelline big eyes mascara and thought it would be another one of those products that will disappoint, this however was very different. It has a large end for the upper lashes and a smaller end for the lower lashes, such a great invention, the lower lash wand makes applying mascara to the lower lash line so much easier and cleaner, definitely worth the hype its received.
Maybelline baby lips have been hyped over so much in the world of YouTube, so I had to jump on the band wagon! I've tried a couple of them but the colours don't seem to suit my skin tone, apart from the fresh mint one, which funnily enough is clear! I think I prefer the fact that it is mint flavoured over anything else, but it seems to do a good job of moisturising my lips.
The Maybelline baby skin face primer promises some good things, it claims to instantly erase your pores. Now I'm not sure that it actually does, but it does leave my skin feeling smooth and creates a good base for my foundation, which I guess it the whole point of a primer!

Hesitating before you knock on a door...

Hesitating before you knock on a door
because you need a moment
to muster up the courage

Leaving the supermarket
because you couldn't find what you wanted
and asking someone is not an option

Feeling your heart nearly palpitate
when dialling a number
because your mum made you phone yourself

Rehearsing your response in your head
before raising your hand in class
to make sure you don't screw up

Staying silent when sitting with a group at lunch
because you never know
anything you say can be ridiculed

New Year, New Hair(ish!)

I have had long straggly hair for the longest time, which I will admit has been full of split ends! As much as I love having that 'just got out of the sea' hair look (which I do!), my mum finally convinced me to have my hair cut.
The salon that I used to go to charges something ridiculous like £40-£50 for a simple cut and blow dry, and as nice as my hair used to look afterwards, I couldn't justify that price. So I decided to go to my local hairdressers and she did the exact same job and only charged me £14.50!
Admittedly all I have had done is a couple of inches off the length and layers but my hair feels so much thicker and healthier. I am glad that I finally gave in to my mums peer pressure to have it cut!

Small Gestures

I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. For a moment life suddenly feels lighter, a bit more Gene Kelly dancing in the rain.

Tumblr

I know I talk a lot about tumblr, but I'm really not sorry about that...at all! Scrolling through my dashboard has been one of my favourite past times for getting on for 5 years. There is something so exciting about seeing all of the images, especially when Harry Potter gifs pop up. It is also very humbling when you see your followers list creeping up and you realise that people appreciate your choice in images!

Christmas Haul 2013

I hope you all had a great Christmas and I wish the best of look for the new year!

For Christmas this year I just got a selection of small items, as there was nothing big/expensive that I overly wanted. A couple of my favourites are the grey tweed dog slippers from John Lewis, some Yankee candles and The Bling Ring movie. I admit the only reason I wanted the bling ring was because Emma Watson is in it, but the film and story is actually amazing. It is based on a true story where a group of Californian teenagers broke into celebrities houses. I would definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already.
